Although the valley’s smallest community in terms of area (just 55 km²), its population of 2,000 actually makes it the most “heavily” populated of the Saalach Valley’s four towns. Combined with a central location, it is very much the focal point of life in the region.
An ideal base for excursions and hikes in summer, while during the winter a lively community of ski and snowboard fans congregates around the ski lifts of the Loferer Alm, ready to indulge their passion amid the pristine mountains surrounding Lofer.
Many visitors also come to us simply to enjoy a relaxing stroll through our car-free town centre, enjoying a little window-shopping along the way. Sampling the occasional culinary speciality at one of our inns and restaurants, or simply soaking in the romantic atmosphere.
